BACKGROUND. The Global Vision Project is the pursuit of a single idea by two organizations. DIF-Disability International Foundation was founded in 1991 and SRDI-Special Recreation for disABLED was founded in 1978.

In 2001 the combined ages of the two organizations total 31 years of service. The senior executives of DIF and SRDI each commenced their rehabilitation service careers in 1958. Their combined years of service totals 84 years.

DIF. Over the years DIF has focused on:

1. Aquatics and disability (the primary area),
2. Fitness through aquatics for all disease and disability groups,
3. Recreation for children, youth, and adults with disabilities,
4. Awareness of disabilities,
5. Faith and disabilities, and
6. International networking.

SRDI. SRDI has focused on areas including:

1. Advocacy for special play and recreation, all activities (50), all ages, and all disease/disability groups,
2. Community-based Special Play and Recreation,
3. Information: databases, directories, professional, and technical.
4. National Institutes on: Camping for disABLED, Play and Recreation for Deaf-Blind, New Models of Community-Based Play and Recreation for disABLED, Recreation for Disadvantaged, etc.
5 Prevention of injury and disability in: fireworks victimization and play and recreation.
6. Therapeutic Recreation Service,

AQUATICS. DIF and SRDI have used "aquatics," (aquatics, aquatic therapy, adapted aquatics, and special aquatics) in the Global Vision Project as an example of adapted, special, and therapeutic applications of play and recreation.

The play and recreation therapies (art therapy, dance therapy, etc.) have achieved professionalism in terms of codes of ethics and practice, accreditation of curricula for pre-service and in-service education and training, standards of practice and research.

Aquatic Therapy is used but the basic aim is to enhance the use of all the play and recreation therapies and special play and recreation activities in the total rehabilitation of people with disabilities.

Users of this GVP WEBSITE are encouraged to contact the play and recreation therapies, for example, Art Therapy, Dance Therapy, Drama Therapy, Music Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation Service, etc.
