__A. IN-SERVICE TRAINING. The AGENCY'S paid and unpaid recreation personnel and volunteers receive basic in-service training and continuing in-service training in Community-Based Special Recreation for people with disabilities.

__B. PRE-SERVICE TRAINING. The AGENCY'S paid professional personnel, consultants, and trainers have received professional formal education at levels such as:
__Associate degree: play/recreation assistant or play/recreation leader.
__Bachelors degree: recreation leader and supervisor.
__Masters degree: supervisor and director.
__Doctorate: professor-teacher, researcher, and field consultant.

__C. CURRICULA. In-service (on the job non-degree) and pre-service (formal degree education) "Curricula for Community Based Special Recreation" is in use and includes:1. REHABILITATION
__Introduction to Disease Conditions and Disability Groups.
__Psychology and Sociology of Disease and Disability.
__Introduction to Rehabilitation Services: Medical Treatment, Care, and Rehabilitation Services; Education/Special Education; Social Rehabilitation and Settlement; Recreation (special, therapeutic); Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment; and, Professional Ethics, Laws, Liability, and Regulations.
__Interpersonal Methods of/for: advising/counseling, communicating (body language, non-verbal, signing), organizing, small group work, and teaching.
2. PLAY AND RECREATION
__Introduction to Professional Park and Recreation Services: history, development, and services; and, play and recreation in institutions, hospital, and community.
__Leadership Methods: interpersonal methods (above) plus coaching, instructing, leading; adaptation for disease, disability, age, and setting for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
__Skills Instruction in Activities: arts/crafts, dance, drama, music, outdoor recreation, social recreation, sports, writing, or therapeutic activities; adaptation of games and equipment; and, managing architectural barriers.
__Medical/Therapeutic Methods, Measurements, and Procedures.
__Program Design and Supervision (activities, leaders, volunteers, sites);
__Administration of Service (policy, personnel, finance, organization);
__Evaluation and Research. __Supervised Internship/ Field Work.
STATUS: __1 __2 __3 __4 __5 PRIORITY: __1 __2 __3 __4 __5__D. INTERNATIONAL TRAINING. In the absence of in-service training or pre-service education the agency uses international study at foreign institutions to obtain professional diplomas, degrees, registration, and/or certification.

__E. REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION. In the interest of maintaining or improving the quality of performance by the recreation agency, recreation personnel, and recreation service, standards for recreation agency service (accreditation), for personnel performance (registration, certification), and for training/ education success (accreditation) are used.

XI. PERSONNEL: Integration of Personnel with Disabilities
__A. INTEGRATION OF PERSONNEL. Personnel with disabilities serve in policy, paid professional recreation staff positions (administration, supervision, leadership), and as recreation volunteers.

__B. INCREASE INTEGRATION OF STAFF. Efforts are being made by the recreation agency to increase the number and proportion of paid professional recreation personnel and unpaid volunteer recreation staff positions help by people with disabilities.

__C. SELECTING STAFF. People with disabilities from the staff, volunteers, and participants participate in the selection of paid professional recreation personnel.

__D. CAREER LADDER. People with disabilities are recruited for entry to employment as recreation workers starting as unpaid volunteer, leading to paid part-time worker and paid full-time professional recreation personnel, in a progression on the recreation career ladder: Volunteer, Assistant Recreation Leader, Recreation Leader, Recreation Supervisor, and Recreation Director.

__E. SPECIAL INCENTIVES. Special incentives such as education opportunities and supported work are provided to recruit people with disabilities into professional recreation service.
