"A Decalogue of Advocacy for Special Play and Recreation for People with Disabilities for the 21st Century"

The goals and desired outcomes of advocacy for special play and recreation for infants, children, youth, adults, and seniors in the 21st Century include:

I. Access. Access to all play and recreation areas, buildings, facilities, gymnasiums, stadiums, transportation, etc., for people with disabilities.

II. Adaptation. Adaptation, accommodation, and modification of play and recreation equipment, rules, and restrictions to allow people with disabilities to participate in all play and recreation.

III. Community.
Community-based special play and recreation for people with disabilities provided by community play and recreation providers and community-based rehabilitation programs and services; and, advocacy for this at the regional, state, national, and international levels.

IV. Employment.
Professional training for people with disabilities in play and recreation service leading to eligibility for recreation employment with commercial enterprises, governments, and non-governmental voluntary organizations.

V. Community Goodwill. Support from civil society at large for public funding, private donations, voluntary non-governmental organizations services, and volunteers for play and recreation for people with disabilities.

VI. Freedom. Freedom from bias, fear, ignorance, and prejudice that creates barriers blocking people with disabilities from participation in play and recreation.

VII. Lifestyle. Attainment by people with disabilities of typical play and recreation lifestyles and play and recreation consumer options.

VIII. Rehabilitation. Provision to people with disabilities of medical, educational, recreational, social, and vocational rehabilitation, care and community based rehabilitation, all toward the goals of attaining each person's highest potential medically, educationally, recreationally, socially, and vocationally.

IX. Rights. Guarantees of human rights, civil rights and equal opportunity in all play and recreation for all people with disabilities.

X. Technology. Utilizations of leading edge information technology, assistive technology, and computer technology for access for people with disabilities to play and recreation resources and to direct play and recreation experience.

Repeat the scoring for as many "advocates" as you wish.
