Special
Recreation for disABLED International, Inc.
The World Leisure and Recreation Association has established a Commission on Access and Inclusion (CAI) with the goals:
"1) to promote and develop initiatives that assure the equitable participation and inclusion of all members of the community to play, recreation, and leisure services.
"2) To serve as a mechanism to advocate for policies and programs within WLRA that focus on access and inclusion.
"3) To foster basic and applied research that examines the meaning and impact of leisure and recreation in the lives of people with disabilities.
"4) To serve as a vehicle to ensure that the needs and issues of access and inclusion are addressed throughout the work of WLRA and its various commissions, committees, and task forces."
The WLRA will address the following problems:
1) physical accessibility;
2) social accessibility;
3) creating inclusive opportunities for groups of individuals who are marginalized, oppressed or otherwise excluded;
4) understanding cultural and regional needs for access and inclusion;
5) critical research and evaluation necessary to establish global and regional benchmarks; and,
6) effective
advocating for inclusion."
